Learning outcomes
PLO 12. To analyze Persian linguistic units, determine their interaction and characterize linguistic phenomena and processes that cause them. PLO 14. To use Persian and English in oral and written form, in various genre-stylistic varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral) to solve communicative tasks in everyday, social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life. PLO 18. To have skills in managing complex actions or projects when solving complex problems in the professional field activities in the field of Iranian studies, as well as translation activities, and to be responsible for making decisions in the unpredictable conditions. PLO 20. To demonstrate basic knowledge of translation theory, basic theoretical and practical problems of translation studies in the aspect of a specific pair of languages (Persian and Ukrainian).

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of linguistic terminology and basic laws of language development (from the course "Basics of Linguistics"); Persian grammatical terminology to the extent necessary for the identification and analysis of grammatical phenomena.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to give a general idea of translation studies as an interdisciplinary field of knowledge, its main problems, basic concepts and terminology, specificity, main functions and methodology of the educational discipline. The meaning of the concept of "translation" as an act of interlingual and intercultural communication, its types, key concepts of general and partial theories of translation are highlighted. A complex of lexical, grammatical and stylistic problems of Persian-Ukrainian translation is outlined. The discipline is part of the complex discipline "Fundamentals of Persian translation theory and practice" and has a theoretical orientation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures and seminar classes. Self-study of the students involves preparation for oral responses, reports with the analyses of scientific literature, and completion of translation assignments.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on: oral responses, written works, translation tasks, reports and presentations – 24/40 points, modular control works – 12/20 points. Summarizing evaluation in the form of exam is max. 40 / min. 24 points (60% of minimum required quantity); the exam is conducted in written and oral forms, and proposes to answer two theoretical questions and to fulfil one practical translation task with analysis of all applied translation transformations. Students, who totally scored less than 36 points during the semester, may not participate in the exam.
