Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To understand the main problems of philology and approaches to their solution using appropriate methods and innovative approaches. PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Persian language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of various styles and genres. PLO 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, to be able to apply it. PLO 17. To collect, analyze, systematize and interpret the facts of language and speech and use them for solving complex problems in specialized fields of professional activity and/or education.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the following courses: “Persian: Basic level”, “Lingual country studies of Iran”; knowledge of linguistic terminology and basic laws of language development from the course “Basics of Linguistics”.
Course content
The goal of the discipline is to provide students with a deep professional understanding of the subject, specifics, and main tasks of Iranian philology at the current stage, to provide general information about the research methodology in this field, and to help master special terminology. The main facts of the centuries-old history of Iranian languages, their classification and periodization, information about written monuments in these languages, the modern distribution of Iranian languages and their dialects are highlighted. The discipline is a part of the complex discipline "Introduction to Philology" and has a theoretical direction.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures and seminar classes. Self-study of the students involves preparation for oral responses, participation in discussions, reports with the analyses of scientific literature, research presentation, precis, summaries.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on the oral testing, written assignments, reports and presentations – 36/60 points, modular test papers – 12/20 points, final test paper – 12/20 points. The credit is given based on the results of the student’s work throughout the entire semester and does not require additional assessment measures. Students who scored 60 points, the required minimum, receive “passed”. Students who failed to score 60 points, the required minimum, receive “failed”. Those students who scored totally less than 60 points during the semester period should complete a test paper in the items which he/she failed to pass. Final score 60-100 – passed; 0-59 – failed.
