Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of national and foreign languages (English) mastery to perform written and spoken communication, namely in situations of professional and scientific communication; to present the results of their studies in the national and foreign languages (English).
PLO 13. To explain the essence of specific linguistic issues and one’s own point of view and its justification to the experts and laypeople, in particular to individuals who are studying.
PLO 14. To create and analyze Ukrainian, Russian, and English texts, edit original and translated texts of different styles and genres, apply in the editing process the rules of proofreading, and knowledge of the typology of errors in Ukrainian, Russian, and English.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student must know:
• orthoepic, grammatical, lexical, and stylistic norms of literary English, and speak English at a level not lower than B2;
• basic linguistic terms; principles of analysis of language material; features of semantics and functioning of units of all levels of English.
The student must be able to:
• apply linguistic tools in practice;
• have basic skills in the selection, analysis, and interpretation of speech facts;
• communicate on linguistic topics.
Course content
The discipline is part of the research component of the program. The purpose of the discipline is the formation of foreign language communicative competence to ensure effective communication in the academic and professional environment; to understand foreign scientific and professional texts; to present scientific results orally and in writing.
Attention is paid to lexical, grammatical, and genre-stylistic analysis of scientific texts. Learning is based on the basic principles of the communicative approach to learning a foreign language using authentic materials and modeling real communicative situations. Training is conducted in the form of practical classes and independent work of students. The discipline ends with a credit.

Training activities during the semester:
• oral answers in practical classes;

• reading and analysis of academic literature (performed in the process of independent work).
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: maximum number of points during the semester - 100 points,
• Oral answers in practical classes: LO 1.1-1.4, 2.1, 2.2, 4 - 15 points;
• Written works: LO 2.3, 2.4, 4 - 15 points;
• Final test: LO 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 4 - 25 points;
• Presentations: LO 2.2, 3, 4 - 20 points;
• Reading and analysis of academic literature: LO 2.1, 4 - 25 points.
