Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To work with information effectively: to select necessary data from different sources, particularly from professional literature and electronic bases; to analyze and interpret it critically; to arrange it and make proper classification and systematization.
PLO 6. Use information and communicative technologies to solve complicated specialized tasks and professional issues.
PLO 15. To conduct linguistic analysis (phonetic, morphemic, syntax, word formation, morphological, semantic), literary criticism, and translation studies analysis of texts of different genres and styles, as well as computer modeling of analysis and synthesis of linguistic objects and phenomena.
PLO 34. To be able to read and translate Latin texts with the dictionary.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) knowledge of general information about language, its nature, functions, and levels; 2) mastering the basic skills of language analysis at all levels of its structure in accordance with the program of secondary school (analysis of grammatical forms and syntactic structures, etymological and word-formation analysis, translation, analysis and interpretation of sentences and texts).
Course content
The course "Latin" introduces students to the basics of phonetics, morphology, word formation, and syntax of the Latin language, the principles of derivation and borrowing from Latin into modern languages, and the heritage of Latin maxims and fixed phrases. Its subject is the study of the laws of the development of the Latin language and its influence on modern European languages. The course gives an idea of the lexical structure and grammar, word-formation models, and the semantics of affixes of the Latin language, the Latin component in professional philological terminology; forms the skills of reading, translating, and commenting on Latin texts with a dictionary, etymological and word-forming analysis of Latin derivatives.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities: lectures, practical classes, consultations, independent work. Teaching methods: explanatory and illustrative method, method of problem-based learning (problem lecture), heuristic method, research method, educational discussion, creative tasks.
Assessment methods and criteria
The oral answer, addition, participation in the discussion, creative task (essay, research work on Latin derivation / professional terminology of Latin origin), and test with open answers. The final assessment is an exam. Evaluation criteria for each form of control are given in the course program.
