Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the courses “Practical Course of the English Language”, “Theoretical Grammar of the English Language”, “Lexicology of the English Language”, “English Language: Lexical and Grammatical Aspect”, and “English Language: Semantic and Stylistic Aspect” (1st term). The student must know lexical, grammatical, phonetic, spelling features of English; ways of word formation, lexical polysemy, lexical antonymy, features of phraseology; as well as have grammatical competence; knowledge of normative grammar with elements of their theoretical understanding and practical application; be able to: produce prepared or unprepared monologue statements that summarize and / or supplement the content of what is heard or seen; retell the content of what is read; and express their own opinion about what they have read or heard, give it arguments; describe, places; objects; make presentations.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to form an appropriate level of professional competence, to form understanding of authentic professional-oriented literature, the development of professional oral and written speech; as well as in acquainting students with the functional-stylistic and genre features of language, stylistic and semantic ways of transmitting expression and description. The discipline is designed to form students' communicative, linguistic and socio-cultural competences; to form students' cognitive competence in relation to other types of competences; to know the functions of the English language in the educational process and in society; to develop the ability to use lexical and syntactic material in speech, taking into account genre and style; to develop students' ability for self-assessment and self-improvement by working with a book, manual, textbook, dictionary, reference books, multimedia tools, etc.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of study consist of practical classes and students’ self-study. Teaching methods include work at the practical classes, presentations, and written tasks.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final mark for the course is formed as the sum of the points of the current and final control. Formative assessment includes work at practical classes (max 10/min 6 points), presentations (max 30/min 18 points), written tasks (max 20/min 12 points). In total, in-process evaluations of academic progress during the semester a student can gain max 60/min 36 points. Summative assessment is arranged in the form of the exam. The exam card includes a written part (2 tasks with max 10 points each) and an oral answer on the topic (max 20 points). The exam scores max 40/min 24 points. To be admitted to the exam a student must score min 36 points. To receive a positive mark in the discipline, the mark for the exam must be at least 24 points.
