Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the courses "Introduction to Literary Studies", " History of Ancient Greek and Roman Literature". Students must be able to formulate their own opinions and judgments based on theoretical knowledge of the course of history of foreign literature; analyze the genre and style features of works; highlight the problem thematic features of the literary movement; to systematize literary facts and phenomena, to give them an objective assessment; to analyze and research certain aspects of the literary process independently.
Course content
The aim of the course is to engage students in the literary and aesthetic values of the East, to show that ancient civilizations have taken their rightful place in the development of world literature, including Ukrainian one. The course covers the masterpieces of the East Literature from the pre-ancient times, Eastern antiquity to the period of the early and mature Middle Ages. The program provides an acquaintance with the three main cultural and historical areas and, accordingly, the works of the ancient East, classical East literature of the early and mature Middle Ages. The program also provides access to the studies of Ukrainian orientalists, translations that have long gone unnoticed, as well as the possibility of using the acquired knowledge in other university courses.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of study consist of lectures, seminars, and students’ self-study. Teaching methods include answers at the seminars, reports (analysis of the scientific papers), tests (open questions), laboratory papers based in the Internet resources, and a final test paper.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course ends with a credit. The grade is formed as the sum of points gained in the in-process evaluations of academic progress, which weigh of up to 100% of the course grade: max 14 for oral answers in seminars, max 15 for reports (analysis of the scientific papers), max 16 for tests (open questions), max 35 for laboratory papers based in the Internet resources, and max 20 for a final test paper. No summative assessment activity is required. A student who has obtained minimum of 60 points is granted a successful completion of the course. If a student does not attain a minimum grade of 60 points, he/she is required to submit the assignments set for this course. The final evaluation of learning outcomes is carried out on a single 100-point scale. There is applied the scale of conformity with grades: Passed 60-100; Fail 0-59.
