Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) Knowledge of factors and basic mechanisms of personality formation.
2) Possession of basic skills of analysis of a pedagogical situation, historical phenomena.
Course content
The course aims at forming students' knowledge of the main development stages of education, pedagogical thought and science, scientific worldview, pedagogical thinking, knowledge of the traditions of the Ukrainian people in educating national consciousness, developing creative skills to apply historical and pedagogical knowledge in practice. It presents the subject and tasks of the history of pedagogy as a branch of general pedagogy, the main development stages of pedagogy as a science (and culture), methods of historical and pedagogical research, the contribution of the outstanding teachers of the past to science, education and culture, their basic ideas and works, history of national education, national pedagogical thought, the main trends in pedagogy at the present stage. The content encompasses two modules: 1) the history of foreign school and pedagogy, 2) the formation, development and current state of the Ukrainian school and pedagogical thought.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities consist of answers at the seminars, individual project, abstract, test paper.
Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, and students’ self-study.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final mark for the course is formed as the sum of the points of formative and summative assessments.
Formative assessment includes answers at seminars (max 35/min 21 points), preparing of the individual project (max 10/min 6 points), writing an abstract (max 5/min 3 points), and a final test paper (max 10/min 6 points). In total, in-process evaluations of academic progress during the semester a student can gain max 60/min 36 points.
Summative assessment is arranged in the form of the exam. The exam scores max 40/min 24 points. To be admitted to the exam, a student must score min 36 points. To receive a positive mark in the discipline, the mark for the exam must be at least 24 points.
