Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of practice involves: knowledge of the English language at the C1-C2 level, good command of the Ukrainian language; knowledge of the theory and practice of translation within the working programs of the relevant disciplines of the educational programme "English Communication Studies and Translation and Two Western European Languages", mastery of translation terminology, methods of translation analysis; knowledge of types of translation difficulties and types of translation transformations used to solve them; the ability to analyze the original text in the source language and synthesize a new translated text in the native or foreign language; ability to use modern search systems, reference electronic and printed resources; general knowledge of PC and basic programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), as well as specialized programs and applications for translators (such as CAT programs).
Course content
Translation practice is an integral part of the educational process of students of the Institute of Philology and is mandatory among other disciplines in the structural-logical scheme of the educational and professional training of master's specialists. By immersing themselves in real life, students have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the daily life of translation, learn to apply knowledge of genre and stylistic features of texts, translation difficulties and ways to solve them in practice. At practice bases, students learn to perform the tasks of the institution's management in accordance with the requirements (graphic design, cooperation with other employees, work with a PC, with the institution's archives (if necessary), etc.) within the allotted time. The deadlines and types of translation practice are determined in accordance with the curriculum of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
During the internship the student provides the supervisor with written translations of all texts, pre-translation and post-translation analysis of texts, bilingual (terminological) glossary on the topic of translations. Upon completion of the internship, the student submits the following documents: 1) the feedback about the student’s work from the organization where the internship took place; 2) a report on the types of translation, as well as analysis of texts indicating the specifics and difficulties of translation; 3) written translation of texts; 4) bilingual (terminological) dictionary on the topic of translations.
Assessment methods and criteria
The maximum students can get for the internship is 100 points. The outcomes of the internship involves assessing the students’ practical skills of written translation (100%), which includes the ability to analyse the text before translating it (20%), skills of abstracting and annotating the texts (20%), and skills of translation of general texts from Ukrainian into English and visa versa (60%).
