Course content
Peculiarities of poetics and the main trends in the development of the British novel of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. - the period when the hierarchical vertical of "high" and "low" culture is destroyed, genre distinctions dissolve, numerous hybrid forms are born. Various genre modifications of the latest British novel appear as a result of the interaction of literature with other types of modern art and science. The focus of the course is the originality of British postmodernism; progress of the English novel from the Great Tradition to the present; interaction of critical theory and literary practice; the role of literary awards in Great Britain; poetics versus politics; originality in unoriginality; post-colonial novel versus post-imperial novel; history and the image of the past in recent British fiction.
