Learning outcomes
PLO 16. Use specialized conceptual knowledge in English, modern linguistics, literary theory, translation theory to solve complex tasks and problems that require updating and integrating knowledge, often in conditions of incomplete/insufficient information and conflicting requirements. PLO 17. Plan, organize, carry out and present research and/or innovative developments in the field of English language, English-language literature, translation (working languages ​​– English and Ukrainian). Also 18., 19.1. - 23.1., 25, 26.1. - 27.1.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of linguistics at the level of bachelor of philology programs (general linguistics, theoretical phonetics, lexicology, theoretical grammar, stylistics), the ability to carry out linguistic analysis within each discipline.
Course content
The course covers the main topics of sociolinguistics as a widespread and popular direction of linguistic research, namely, regional and social variation of the English language in the world, the status and place of dialects, the relationship between literary language and dialects, processes occurring in the field of dialects, the emergence of new dialects, the status of English languages ​​as a world language, regional variants of the English language in the modern world, the mutual influence of English and local languages ​​as a result of language contacts, the relationship between multiculturalism and multilingualism, language policy, minority language preservation projects, the gender factor in language and communication.

Semester assessment: • the maximum number of points during the semester is 80 points, • analytical multimedia presentations: PLO 1.1–1.2, 2.1–2.2, 3.1-3.2 – 80 points • the maximum number of points for the control work – 20 points, • PLO 1.1–3.2 is estimated
