PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of English and the two studied Western European languages, and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 10. Know the rules of standard language and be able to apply them in practice. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, English and two other Western European languages. PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 14. Use English and two other Western European languages in oral and written form, in different genre-style varieties and registers of communication (formal, informal, neutral), for solving communicative tasks in everyday, public, educational, professional and academic spheres of life.

Full-time form

The students are supposed to have successfully mastered the following basic disciplines: General English: Part 1 (Drama Class) and Part 2 (Interactive Listening Comprehension); to be at least B2 English users; to effectively communicate in English orally, to use its various genre and style variations as well as registers of communication, to possess public speaking skills.

The present course is part of the general course of practical English. The programme of the present course has been elaborated in accordance with the new Educational programme and aims at 2nd year students. The course is aimed at the formation of the students’ ability to perceive real-life English oral speech, the expansion of their active vocabulary related to the topics covered by this programme, the broadening of their outlook, the development of the ability to participate in discussions and defend their opinion. The prevailing teaching method is the communicative method which aims at engaging students in all types of speech activities and boosting their creativity. Educational work with students is carried out in the form of practical classes. The form of final control is an exam.

Training activities during the semester: Dialogues / discussions, listening, presentations, tests in practical classes; writing essays and preparing for the above activities during individual work.

Term assessment: the maximum score during the term is 60 points (40 points for General English + 20 points for Interactive Viewing): Lexico-grammatical test: LO 1.1-1.2 – 10 p. Listening: LO 2.3, 2.4 – 8 p. Dialogues / Discussion: LO 1.1, LO 2.2, LO 3, LO 4 – 5 p. Presentation: LO1.1-1.2, LO2.2, LO4 – 12 p. Essay: LO1.1-1.2, LO1.3, LO4 – 5 p. The final assessment is an exam: • the maximum score during the exam is 40 points, the minimum score, which is added to the semester score is 24 points (60% of the maximum score); • the following learning outcomes are assessed during the exam: LO 1.1-1.3; LO 3. • the exam is conducted in half oral form: 1) Written presentation of a grammar question. 2) Written linguistic analysis of a text and translation of its passage. 3) Interview on one of the lexical topics. Students who have scored a total of less than the critical minimum of 36 points are not allowed to take the exam.
