PLO 7. Understand the major issues of philology and approaches to solving those using relevant methods and innovative approaches. PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of English and the two studied Western European languages, and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) Knowledge of general information about language, its nature, functions and levels; 2) possession of the basic skills of language analysis at all levels of its structure according to the syllabi of secondary school (analysis of grammatical forms and syntactic structures, etymological and word-formation analysis, translation, analysis and interpretation of sentences and texts).
Course content
The discipline " Latin" introduces students to the basics of phonetics, morphology, word formation and syntax of the Latin language, the principles of derivation and borrowing from Latin into modern languages, in particular into English, the heritage of Latin maxims and fixed phrases. Its subject is the study of the laws of the development of the Latin language and its influence on modern European languages. The discipline gives an idea of the lexical structure and grammar, word-formation models and the semantics of affixes of the Latin language, the Latin component in professional philological terminology; forms the skills of reading, translating and commenting on Latin texts with a dictionary, etymological and word-forming analysis of Latin derivatives.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Training activities during the semester: • extra-curriculum exercises done individually, • creative projects; • mid-term control - written tests; • responses during practice classes
Assessment methods and criteria
The term number of points is the sum of points that a student gains in the process of studying over the entirity of the course. The overall grade for the term consists of points received for classroom work (which also synthesizes independent work on revision theoretical material for classroom preparation: oral answers, additions and participation in discussions, tests with open answers) and for individual work (creative works: essay, research work on Latin derivation / professional terminology of Latin origin). All types of work for the semester have as a result: • in the maximum dimension - 60 points, • a minimum of 36 points. In case of missing a practical class, the student must complete the tasks for the class
