Learning outcomes
PTR 7. To understand the main problems of philology and ways to solve them using appropriate methods and innovative approaches. PTR 15. To perform linguistic, including pre-translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres. PTR 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of translation, be able to apply them in professional activities. PTR 17. To collect, analyze, systematize and interpret the facts of language and speech and use them for adequate translation (from Ukrainian into the native language and vice versa) of oral and written texts of different styles and genres. PTR 18. To have the skills to manage complex actions or projects in solving complex problems in professional activities in the field of translation and be responsible for making decisions in unpredictable conditions.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of theoretical and practical courses of the Ukrainian language taught during the first year of study. 2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of linguistics.
Course content
The discipline gives an idea of the main problems of translation theory: the history of the emergence and development of translation studies, the system of its branches, the place of translation studies among other linguistic disciplines, the main provisions of translation theory; features of different types of translation; lexical, grammatical and stylistic problems of translation and the system of translation transformations; stages of translation strategy, causes and types of translation errors; requirements for a translator, etc. The course also aims to develop basic practical skills necessary for translation from Ukrainian into a native language and vice versa in communicative situations in everyday and educational spheres of communication.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of study: lectures, practical classes, independent work. Teaching methods: explanation of new material, independent work with the textbook, discussion, self-control tasks and analysis of mistakes, collective pre-translation analysis of the text, collection and analysis of information for translation, collective interpretation and translation, collective analysis of the quality of translation, translation editing.
Assessment methods and criteria
Forms of assessment: oral responses, participation in discussions, current tests, written translation, analysis of the results of written translation and its editing, oral translation, analysis of the quality of oral translation, demonstration translation, collection and analysis of information for translation.
