PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folklore, determine their specificity and place in the literary process. PLO17. To collect, analyze, systematize and interpret the facts of language and speech and use them to solve complex problems in specialized areas of professional activity and / or study. PLO18. To have the skills to manage complex actions or projects in solving complex problems in professional activities in the field of the chosen philological specialization and to be responsible for making decisions in unpredictable conditions.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The course is interactive. It is based on the courses "Introduction to Literary Studies," "Literatures of the Ancient East," "History of the Ancient East," and the course of (school) Ukrainian literature and provides for "different educational levels" (R. Semkiv). In addition to lectures, seminars, and independent work, the course includes class discussions, informative presentations, work with electronic resources, and other innovative methods. A prerequisite for access to the course is the following student competencies: Knowledge of - recommended literary texts; - features of the literary epoch. Be able to: - analyze them in the context of the development of literary and cultural Ukrainian-Eastern relations; - identify, using the material, the features, type of Ukrainian oriental discourse, the most characteristic figures and works; - analyze genre, style, problematic and thematic features of works. Possess elementary skills: - comparative analysis.
Course content
In different periods of the development of Ukrainian literature, interest in the East, the "demand" for Eastern monuments, varied and was realized in different ways: through "religious" channels, travel, later legends (most often through the mediation of Greeks, Bulgarians, and Czechs) or translations, indirect and direct contacts, geopolitical factors, memories, and various forms of reception of common plots and images, expanding and diversifying the artistic field of literature. They were mostly in tune with the processes/phenomena that accompanied the recipient literature. Borrowed monuments (reworkings, translations, interpolations, imitations) performed the same functions as "their own" ones, were "a phenomenon of their literature," although the ways in which they entered the literary process in different periods were and remain different, which is connected, in particular, with the features of Ukrainian Orientalism, its differences from Orientalism, according to E. Said, "the mentality of European colonialism," as well as the very phenomenon of Ukrainian literature - "literature with a mission," "literature between two worlds" (L. Rudnytsky), which affects the peculiarities of the oriental discourse of Ukrainian literature.
