Learning outcomes
PLO 16. To know and to understand the basic concepts and categories of Сlassical Philology and the theoretical principles of General Linguistics, to be able to apply them in professional activities.
PLO 22. To understand the role and the place of classical languages and literatures in the context of the European linguistic and cultural space, in the development strategies of the latest scientific paradigm and modern civilization.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful mastering of the academic disciplines "Introduction to Linguistics", "Introduction to Classical Philology" and "History of Ancient Greece and Rome";
2) knowledge of general information about the historical and cultural context of antiquity and the following post-Antique eras, the basics of linguistic and literary terminology, History of Ancient Greek literature, History of Roman literature, the grammar of the Ancient Greek and Latin languages;
3) gaininng of basic skills and abilities to track the evolution of historical and cultural epochs, to analyze and interpret historical and literary works.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint students with the main stages of the historical development of one of the oldest and most developed sciences, the characteristics of the activities of its most prominent representatives, a review and analysis of their works.
Abstract of the academic discipline. The discipline "History of classical philology" belongs to the list of disciplines of the student's free choice. Its subject is to aware of the peculiarities of the study of the Latin language during the Middle Ages, Latin and the Ancient Greek languages during the Renaissance, the role of Antiquity in the formation and development of Renaissance culture, the understanding of Antiquity during Classicism and the Enlightenment, the development of ancient archeology as a science, the development of the subject of Classical Philology in the 19th century, the development of Classical Philology in the 20th and early 21st centuries, familiarization with the history of Classical Philology in Ukraine.

Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level evaluation of the learned material, in particular, evaluation of theoretical and practical training - learning outcomes (skills 2.1 - 2.4); (communication 3.1 - 3.3); (autonomy and responsibility 4.1 - 4.5), which is 60% of the total grade. Assessment of semester work: 1. Oral answer: 1.1-1.2; 2.4; 3.1-3.3; 4.5 - 12/20. 2. Additions, participation in the discussion: 2.1-3; 3.1-2; 4.1-3 – 4/8 points. 3. Report-analysis of scientific literature 2.1.-2.4; 3.1-3.2.; 4.1-4.5 - 6/10.4. Control works: 1.1-1.5; 2.1-2.4; 4.1-4.5– 6/10 points. 4. Creative task (essay, reader's review): 1.3; 2.2-2.3; 3.1-3.2; 4.1, 4.3-4.5 – 8/12. Final assessment: exam 24/40.
