PLO 2. To work effectively with information: to select the necessary information from various sources, in particular from professional literature and electronic databases, to analyze critically, to interpret, to arrange, to classify and to systematize it.
PLO 4. To understand the fundamental principles of human, nature and society being.
PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of ancient Greek and Latin languages texts of various styles and genres.
PLO 16. To know and to understand the basic concepts and categories of Сlassical Philology and the theoretical principles of General Linguistics, to be able to apply them in professional activities.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To gain general knowledge about the historical and cultural contexta of Antiquity, basic knowledge about Ancient Mythology; basic knowledge of the grammar of the Latin and Ancient Greek languages, initial skills of the analysis and interpretation of literary works with the mythological background.
Course content
The purpose of the course "Ancient Mythology and Modernity" is to acquaint students with the latest approaches to the definition and understanding of myth, the history of ancient mythology and its structural and typological features (chronology, hierarchical principle of construction, classification), the sources of the mythological tradition, the reception of the ideas of the Hellenes and Romans in European culture.
Abstract. The course consists of two substantive parts. The first one is devoted to the theory and functions of myth as a primitive form of the spiritual culture of mankind, the evolution of the mythological worldview of the ancient Greeks and Romans, the periodization of mythology, the classification of ancient myths; the second one is to study of the history of the formation of mythological images: from archaic mixanthropism and teratomorphism to classical anthropomorphism; the influence of ancient mythology on the development of European civilization and world culture.

Lectures; video materials and presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint), excursion; independent work (preparation of materials on a given topic, presentations, creative project)
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester number of points is formed by the points obtained by the student in process of learning material from the entire educational course. The overall grade for semester consists of points received for classroom and independent work. The final assessment is conducted in form of an exam. The maximum number of points on exam is 40, the minimum number of points that are added to semester points is 24; the following learning outcomes are evaluated on the exam: 1.1-1.5, 2.1-2.3; 4.2-4.4; exam is conducted in the form of written work. The final number of points for discipline is defined as the sum of points for systematic work during semester, taking into account the exam. Admission to the exam requires the student to successfully complete assignments and work independently throughout semester.
