Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To analyze, compare and classify different trends and schools in Linguistics. PLO 9. To characterize theoretical principles (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) and applied aspects of the chosen linguistic specialization. PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge in a chosen linguistic field to solve complex tasks and issues, which require updates and integration of knowledge, often under conditions of incomplete or lacking information and contradictory requirements.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The course "Dialectology and Variability of the Swedish Language" requires mastery of the Swedish language at a level not lower than B2 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, knowledge of phonetics, grammar, lexicology, history of the Swedish language, acquired during the study of theoretical courses of the Swedish language, as well as possession of general knowledge of the geography of Sweden, acquired during the study of the course "Country Studies".
Course content
The course "Dialectology and Variability of the Swedish language" in the 3rd semester of the master's program includes lectures and practical classes. In lectures, students get acquainted with the definitions of the concept of dialect, theoretical positions and methodology of dialect research, principles of geographical and social variability, origin and historical development of dialects of the Swedish language, their classification and sphere of use. In practical classes, students master the skills of reading and listening to the most common Swedish dialects, as well as their linguistic analysis.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities: lectures, practical classes, independent work. Teaching methods: explanatory and illustrative method, method of problem-based learning (problem lecture), research method, scientific discussions, analytical tasks.
Assessment methods and criteria
Current assessment: oral survey, test, analytical task. Final assessment - credit. Evaluation criteria for each form of control are given in the course program.
