The educational discipline is one of the basic ones in the preparation of bachelors in geography, which helps to acquire the skills of orientation in space and time, allows to expand the geographical picture of the world. It is aimed at forming in students deep comprehensive knowledge about the peculiarities of the nature of the continents and the World Ocean. Separate components of the discipline are the study of the spatial differentiation of the geographical envelope, the history of geological development and tectonic-orographic structure, climatic features, surface waters, soils and vegetation, criteria for the selection of natural zones and taxonomic units of physical-geographical zoning of continents. Special attention during the study of the course is directed to the analysis of natural conditions and resources, issues of preservation of species diversity of flora, fauna and natural landscapes in general. The functional block of the discipline involves mastering such components as the ability to use geographical concepts, concepts, theories, ideas, principles to explain phenomena and processes at different spatial levels from global to local.
