1. Successful completion of the course "Geography", "Mathematics". 2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of science, which contribute to a deeper understanding of the properties of the Earth's physical surface, its correct display on maps. 3. To have basic mathematical analysis skills and problem-solving skills with a general geographic map.
Course content
Cartography with the basics of topography is one of the introductory subjects studied by students of geographical faculties of universities. It provides an introduction to the subject of cartography, the structure of cartography, the properties of a map as a model of the real world, the classification of cartographic works, and the elements of maps. Issues of the mathematical basis of cartographic works are considered, including scales, cartographic projections, distortion of the cartographic image, classifications of cartographic projections and their main properties, projections for world territories, hemispheres, continents, oceans, and states. Issues of geographical features of cartographic generalization on maps are revealed; methods of mapping objects and phenomena, features of map making. The use of cartographic works in scientific and practical literature is analyzed. Tasks are solved using a topographic map.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, practical session, independent analytical work
Assessment methods and criteria
Presentation, test, survey blitz, performance of creative analytical works. The maximum number of points for credit is 40 points, the minimum number of points added to semester credits is 24 points (60% of the maximum number of points allocated for credit). Students who scored a total of less points than the critical calculation minimum - 20 points are not allowed to pass the test. The recommended minimum for admission to the test is 36 points.
