PR01. Collect, process and analyze information in the field of earth sciences. PR06. Determine the main characteristics, processes, history and composition of the Earth as a planetary system and its geospheres. PR07. Apply models, methods and data of physics, chemistry, biology, ecology, mathematics, information technologies etc. when studying natural processes of formation and development of geospheres. PR10. Analyze the composition and structure of geospheres (in accordance with specialization) on different spatial and temporal scales. PR11. Organize and summarize the materials of field and laboratory research.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Completing the assigned tasks will allow the graduate to achieve the following competencies: K11. The desire to preserve the natural environment. K13. Knowledge and understanding of the theoretical foundations of Earth sciences as a complex natural system. K16. The ability to apply quantitative methods in the study of geospheres. K17. The ability to comprehensively analyze the composition and structure of geospheres. K20. Ability to independently investigate natural materials (in accordance with specialization) in field and laboratory conditions, describe, analyze, document and report on results.
Course content
Introduction. History of development and current state of hydrogeology. Hydrogeological stratification and classification of the underground hydrosphere. Waters of the aeration zone and groundwater. Artesian waters. The main types of artesian pools. Conditions for the release of underground water to the surface of the earth. Classification of sources. Types of fissuring of rocks by origin. Mode and chemical composition of fractured waters. Karst and its development. Zoning of karst waters. Determination of mineral waters. Balneological significance of underground waters The concept of industrial waters. Use of industrial waters. The concept of thermal waters. Practical use of thermal waters. Groundwater in areas of permafrost. Underground waters under the seas and oceans. Recreational value of groundwater. Filtering laws. The concept of water intakes.
