Learning outcomes
assimilation by students of the main theoretical provisions of the fundamental laws of natural science - the laws of conservation (the law of conservation of mass (substance, matter) and the law of conservation of energy), as the basis of balance methods related to the solution of balance equations for various natural processes (water, thermal salt, gas balances, balance of organic and mineral substances, etc.), of various natural objects (river basins, underground waters, reservoirs, swamps, inland seas, etc.) for different periods of time, as well as in the ability of students to calculate the components of the water balance equation for the river basin, draw up the equation as a whole with an assessment of its accuracy, reveal the physical essence of the water balance processes occurring in catchments, assess the role of economic activity and climate changes on changes in the components of the water balance.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of the courses "Physics", "Chemistry", "General hydrology", "Hydrology of rivers", "Hydrology of swamps, glaciers and groundwater", "Oceanology", "Hydrometry", "Fundamentals of meteorology", "Geomorphology and paleogeography" , "Methods of hydrological information processing and analysis", "Cartography", "Mathematical methods in hydrometeorology".
2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of general physics, chemistry, hydrology, geology, earth science, climatology, meteorology, hydrometry, cartography, mathematical statistics.
3. To have basic practical skills of collecting, systematizing, summarizing observational materials on meteorological indicators and elements of the hydrological regime of water bodies, statistical processing of series of random values and cartographic information, analysis of physical and geographical conditions of the river basin and peculiarities of the water regime of rivers.
Course content
1. to acquaint students with the theoretical foundations of balance research methods;
2. to acquaint students with the techniques of mathematical statistics for analyzing hydro-, meteorological and agro-meteorological data and assessing the accuracy of water balance calculations;
3. to acquaint students with the methods and technologies of spatial and temporal averaging of the components of the water balance equation;
4. to provide students with a clear procedure for performing work on the calculation of the water balance of the river basin, which is necessary for its correct compilation, analysis and, if necessary, assessment and correlation.
