Learning outcomes
The goal of the discipline is for students to acquire systematic ideas about physical, chemical, geological and biological phenomena and processes occurring in the World Ocean and to analyze the geographical features of their manifestation. At the same time, the world ocean is considered as a single geographical object in its interaction with water objects on land, atmosphere, lithosphere and biosphere.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of the courses "Physics", "Hydrochemistry of the World Ocean", "Hydrobiology", "Geology", "Hydrology of river mouths"; 2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of general hydrology, oceanography, hydrology of river mouths; 3. To have elementary skills of hydrological and water balance calculations, statistical processing of hydrological series.
Course content
this educational discipline is devoted to the study of the theoretical and methodological foundations of oceanology, in particular in terms of the following basic issues: physical properties of seawater, hydrodynamic processes (tides, currents, waves, level fluctuations, etc.), thermal and ice regimes; chemical composition of sea waters, processes of their pollution and self-cleaning; geological structure of the bottom and shores of the World Ocean; flora and fauna of the ocean; patterns of atmospheric processes over the ocean.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
As a result of studying the discipline, students should learn the elements of research activity, principles of organization, methods and technologies of conducting oceanological and oceanographic research, learn to conduct original research and, in particular, in terms of collecting oceanographic and oceanological information, theoretical premises and working hypotheses, choosing the methodology and methods of conducting analysis of the regime of the World Ocean and its individual components,
