Learning outcomes
Stages of creating models of oil and gas basins. Data sources for building models, methods of their transformation. Interpretive features of geophysical and geochemical data in problems of petroleum geology. Techniques for construction of frame and cell models of sedimentary basins. Approximation methods for constructing facial and petrophysical models. Methods for estimating oil and gas reserves based on cell models. Methods of visualization of spatial and spatio-temporal data. Risk assessment methods for petroleum systems. Preparation of data for analysis in modeling systems (for example, Schlumberger Petrel and PetroMod). Estimation of oil and gas potential of sedimentary basins (on the example of Schlumberger PetroMod).
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of geological cycle courses: "Structural Geology", "Stratigraphy", "Fundamentals of Geophysics". Successful mastering of the course "Modeling of mineral deposits" or comparable experience with systems of three-dimensional modeling of mineral deposits. Have basic skills in working with spreadsheets, geographic information systems.
Course content
The basics of modeling the history of sedimentary basin development on the Schlumberger PetroMod device are being introduced. Students acquire practical skills in building models of oil and gas generation potential, interpreting a large amount of geophysical and geological data and building a structural model of the territory. As a result of the course, the student acquires the competence to build and protect a consistent geological and geophysical model of the history of the sedimentary basin and assess the potential of its oil and gas potential.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, practical classes, independent work of students.
Assessment methods and criteria
The control is carried out according to the modular rating system and includes: assessment for work in practical classes (where students must demonstrate the quality of acquired knowledge and solve tasks) and conducting 2 written modular tests. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam.
