Learning outcomes
Know: modern aspects of problems of non-traditional sources of hydrocarbons of Ukraine and the world taking into account ecological aspects; modern methods of research of potentially oil and gas structures and stratons of Ukraine; features of genesis and location of hydrogen coal deposits within shale gas strata, methane deposits of coal basins. Be able to apply knowledge and necessary practical skills in the organization, research of low-permeability potentially oil and gas rocks; Design, organize and conduct field and in-house work, laboratory research of potentially promising facilities for non-traditional types of hydrocarbons in Ukraine.
Form of study
Distance form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Mastering information about the geological features of unconventional sources of hydrocarbons - shale, compacted reservoirs, combustible gases of coal deposits of Ukraine, the ability to assess the problems facing the fuel and energy complex of Ukraine and suggest ways to solve them.
Course content
The results of analysis of the state of exploration, prospecting and extraction of hydrocarbons of unconventional type are quoted: shale gas, tight gas, coalbed methane, shale oil in different countries of the world. Numerous examples of such raw material are cited, special features of a geological structure of typical sedimentary basins and fields are described as well as technologies of their workings and the problems of the environmental protection. Problems of the world resources and reserves are considered and it is shown that unconventional types of hydrocarbons are of great importance for the increase in the mineral-raw materials basis of the fuel-power sector of the leading countries of the world.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, seminars and independent work of the student
Assessment methods and criteria
The results of students' learning activities are evaluated on a scale of 100 points. The evaluation is carried out according to the accumulative system and provides: 2 tests, each of which is evaluated at 30 points (a minimum of 18 points). The final assessment is an exam (maximum 40 points, marginal 24 points). During the exam, the student demonstrate knowledge related to the distribution of certain types of fuel, ore and industrial minerals in Ukraine, the main geological types of their deposits, the current state of resources and reserves, qualitative characteristics of mining and processing, market conditions. The final grade is based on the results of the student's work over a period of semester, as the sum of points for systematic work in seminars, the results of tests and knowledge of lecture information, and points obtained during the exam.
