Know: - basic environmental principles; - principles of formation, ways of realization and criteria of efficiency of ecological policy. - parameters of environmental assessment. - components of the environmental protection system in Ukraine. - basic legal requirements and internationally recognized principles for the implementation of environmental assessments. Be able: - identify, classify, describe the sources and factors of environmental impact; - assess the impact of environmental components on the mining projects; - provide reasoned conclusions for the audience that are not experts in environmental assessments. Understand: - the role of environmental assessments as a tool for implementing environmental policy; - advantages, disadvantages of the main approaches to determining the quality of the environment; - differences between different environmental assessment procedures; - personal responsibility for the conclusions made during the environmental assessment.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know the structural peculiarities of the geological environment (including geochemical and geophysical fields), hazardous geological processes and methods of mining.
Course content
A brief description of factors determining the ecological state of natural-industrial complexes is given, the basic principles of assessing the impact of mining on the environment. The following topics are considered: - the place and role of environmental assessments in environmental policy, principles of environmental policy; - mechanisms of state regulation and control in the field of environmental safety in Ukraine; - regulatory framework for environmental assessments and environmental assessment procedures in Ukraine (screening, EIA, environmental expertise and audit, environmental impact assessment report and conclusion): analyzes the completeness of internationally recognized principles of environmental assessment in environmental assessment procedures in Ukraine from 1995 to the present on the example of mining projects; - factors of environmental impact in the implementation of mining projects and assessment of their impact on individual components of the environment.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: Test work №1: max 25 / min 12 points. Test work №2: - max 25 / min 13 points. Essay: max 10 / min 5 points. Test work №3 (final) max 40 / min 24 points. Final evaluation: Test. A necessary condition for obtaining a positive assessment is not only gaining 60 points for the semester, but also the final test (writing a partial conclusion on the impact on the environment on the case) with a score of at least 24 points. A student is not allowed to write a final test if he / she scored less than 30 points for writing the essay and the first two tests or did not complete one of the tests Test work № 1 is carried out not earlier than 6 weeks of classes, and test work № 2 - not earlier than 10 weeks of classes. Students receive assignments to write an essay no later than 4 weeks before the end of the semester. The final test is performed by students in the last week of the semester.
