Learning outcomes
Possession of knowledge about the classification of terrigenous and carbonate rocks, their genetic and mineral types. Understanding the spatio-temporal patterns of their distribution. Mastering skills in the sequence of petrographic studies of reservoir rocks. Ability to examine core samples macroscopically and to make a petrographic description of thin sections of reservoir rocks using a polarizing microscope. Namely: to determine the mineral composition, structure and texture of terrigenous and carbonate rocks, to determine and describe the nature of the pore space of reservoirs. Be able to independently conduct petrographic studies of rocks of oil and gas reservoirs and draw sound conclusions.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastering of courses of mineralogy and petrography of sedimentary rocks. 2. Possession of skills of microscopic study of rocks
Course content
The program of the discipline includes acquaintance with lithological and petrographic characteristics of oil and gas reservoir rocks. Focuses is on the practical study of these rocks in the core of oil wells and microscopic study and description of reservoir rocks in petrographic thin sections. Peculiarities of epigenetic changes in rocks and their influence on reservoir properties are considered.
