Learning outcomes
The student should know: The current state and prospects for the development of biophysics. Basics of protein biophysics. Types of membrane transport. The Nernst-Planck equation for the flow of substances through a membrane. The Thomas equation for the transmembrane potential with active transport in mind. The Nernst equation. Goldman-Hodgkin-Katz equation for equilibrium transmembrane potentials. Cable equation of nerve impulse propagation along axons. The speed of nerve impulse propagation. Features of myelinated fiber. Principles of information coding in sensor systems and their functioning. The student should be able to: Apply experimental methods of protein research, and in particular, optical methods in the biophysics of macromolecules. To introduce experimental methods of registration and measurement of ion currents of the plasma membrane and individual ion channels. Solve problems related to the thermodynamics of living systems.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
The course is a continuation of the cycle of applied physics courses. Knowledge of the classical sections of general physics, higher mathematics (mathematical analysis, differential equations), the basics of biophysics and organic chemistry is necessary for successful mastering of the course.
Course content
Providing students with physical knowledge, formation of scientific views, abilities, basic skills in the field of science of physical mechanisms and physico-chemical processes that underlie the vital activity of biological objects and systems at various levels of their organization - molecular, membrane, cellular, organic.
