Learning outcomes
The result of the course "Mechanics" is theoretical knowledge of basic models and laws of kinematics and dynamics of material point and solid body, conservation laws, celestial mechanics, oscillations and waves and special theory of relativity and the use of theoretical knowledge to solve theoretical and experimental problems of mechanics.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student must know: 1. Formulation of basic principles, laws, formulas, and equations of mechanics, and the limits of their application. 2. Basic methods of solving physical problems of different types, basic terms, and models used in the formulation of problems and their. 3. Examples of manifestations of the laws of mechanics in nature and examples of the use of the laws of mechanics in technology, various fields of science, production, and everyday life. The student must be able to: 1. Logically and consistently formulate the basic principles and laws of mechanics. 2. Write the equations of motion of bodies and systems of bodies, expressions for initial and boundary conditions, relationships that limit mechanical motion, etc. in both coordinate-free and coordinate form. 3. To substantiate and correctly make approximations when solving the equations of mechanics and analysis of the obtained solutions.
Course content
1. Mechanical motion and the concept of space and time. 2. Kinematics of a material point and a solid body. 3. Newton's laws - the basis of classical mechanics. 4. Motion with respect to non-inertial reference frames. 5. Momentum, angular momentum, the kinetic energy of particles, and particle systems. 6. The momentum of the particle system. The movement of the center of mass. 7. The movement of the body of variable mass. 8. The angular momentum of the particle system. 9. Energy of the particle system. 10. Application of conservation laws to particle collisions. 11. Dynamics of a solid body. 12. The law of universal gravitation. 13. Oscillations and waves in mechanics. 14. Fundamentals of the special theory of relativity.

Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment of knowledge is carried out according to the module-rating system, which consists of 3 content modules. The knowledge assessment system includes current, modular, and semester control of knowledge. The results of students' learning activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale. Forms of current control: assessment of tests, colloquium, oral answers during practical classes, written and oral independent assignments. The student can receive a maximum of 10 points for each intermediate and final test, 20 points for oral answers during practical classes, written and oral independent assignments, and 20 points for the colloquium. The final control is conducted in the form of an exam, during which the student can get a maximum of 40 points. The condition for admission of a student to the exam is the fulfillment of two conditions: obtaining a minimum of 36 points during the semester and obtaining credit for the "Workshop on Mechanics".
