Prerequisites and co-requisites
A student should assimilate such linguistic disciplines as: “Practical Course of English”, “Theoretical course of the English Language (Introduction to Specialty; History of the English Language).” A student should know basic linguistic notions, concepts. A student should be able to select, analyze and interpret linguistic facts and phenomena, to discuss different linguistic topics.
Course content
Aim of the subject is to inform students about the linguistic problems of theoretical grammar, to develop students’ linguistic thinking and scientific understanding the grammatical phenomena and categories in the context of modern theories of theoretical grammar. Annotation of the subject. The educational discipline consists of four parts: the first part grasps the problems of the theoretical grammar position among other linguistic disciplines and their mutual correlation; the second third parts are connected with gradual studying the grammatical approach to the lexical structure and syntactical units of the English sentence; the fourth part of the course gives students backgrounds of pragmatic theories. Study of the theoretical grammar gives the opportunity of deepening, generalizing, systematizing information obtaining by students in the process of practical language studying. It enables students to provide their own individual linguistic research.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Measures include the seminar oral answer, the thematic control work writing, the exam answer. Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, self-study.
Assessment methods and criteria
Form of final control includes such components as the exam with marks max 40/min 24.
Form of current control includes writing of two thematic test papers. The first thematic test paper with marks max 10/min 5. The second thematic test paper with marks 15/min 10. In total two thematic test papers mark max 25/min 15.
Form of current control includes seminar oral answers (7 seminars) with one seminar answer mark max 5/min 3. In total seven seminars mark max 35/min 21.
The total final mark is calculated according to the number of points.
