            The successful mastery of the previous courses of the "History of Foreign Literature" as a complex discipline. The knowledge of the steps of the literary process genesis, the understanding of the peculiarities of each period of history foreign literature development. The ability to use the terminology and conceptual apparatus of the literary studies. The mastery of the basic skills of literary analysis and text interpretation. 
        
    
            Course content
        
        
            The course makes students acquainted with the art movements and the evolution of the Western European and American literature of the 19th century. An attention is paid to bright samples of creativity of the key writers of this period. The study of main features of image thinking in Romanticism and Realism, Naturalism, Impressionism, Symbolism is emphasized. The aim of the course is to describe the main literature phenomena of the stated period and identify interrelations between the philosophical thought, cultural discourse and the literary practice, to analyze the paradigm of the literary genres of these epochs. Learning outcomes include the general skills of literary critical analysis and the ability of independent interpreting of the literary works representing the Western European and American literature of the defined period.

            Planned learning activities and teaching methods
        
        
            The educational activities include answering at the seminars, the writing of an essay and passing the final test. The work program of the discipline includes the implementation of lectures and seminars, as well as students' independent work. 
        
    
            Assessment methods and criteria
        
        
            The final assessment mark for the course is formed by the sum of the marks of the current and final control.
The forms of current control encompass the answers on the seminars (max 35/ min 21 points), preparing an essay (max 15/ min 9 points). When is sum, the forms of the final control make up max 60/ min 36 points.
The form of the final control is the exam with max 40/min 21 points for the mark.
For the access to the exam the student needs to accumulate at least 36 points. To receive a positive mark for the course, the mark for the exam must be at least 24 points.
