Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of mastery of national and foreign languages to perform written and spoken communication, namely in the situations of professional and academic communication; to present the results of their studies in these national and foreign languages.
PLO 3. To apply modern methods and techniques, namely informational, in order to perform successful and effective professional activity and guarantee the quality of research in a specific linguistic field.
PLO 5. To find optimal ways for effective interaction in the professional community and with representatives of other professional groups at various levels.
PLO 24.2 To apply principles of oral translation, note-taking, and oral translator’s rhetoric techniques in English.
PLO 25.2 To have command of techniques for simultaneous and conference translation in English and one of the languages (German/ French/ Spanish/ Italian/Portuguese).

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the basic categories of translation and general principles of interpretation.
2. Be able to adequately apply the basic translation techniques.
3. Proficiency in English at a level not lower than C1 and Ukrainian at a level not lower than C2.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is the formation and improvement of general and professional competencies necessary for understanding the basic laws of interpretation during conferences and meetings, studying the main types of translation equivalents based on a wide range of texts.
The discipline is optional for students who have chosen to study bilateral interpretation and prepares students for professional conference interpreting.
Practical classes are aimed at studying lexical-grammatical, syntactic, and genre-stylistic features of conference interpreting, practical mastery of translation transformations, awareness of their feasibility depending on genre-normative requirements and functional features of translation of different types of speeches (speeches, remarks, amendments, conducting meetings, etc.). Teaching and assessment are in English and Ukrainian.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Teaching activities during the semester:
• lectures: thematic block "Part 1. Theoretical and organizational principles of conference interpreting"
• practical classes on two thematic blocks: "Part 2. Translation of meetings of international and governmental organizations", "Part 3. Translation of thematic conferences";
• tests during the semester - written vocabulary tests, interpreting tests.
Assessment methods and criteria
Points for work during the semester (60) are obtained by the student in the process of mastering the material on all content topics (oral answers in practical classes; participation in discussions during lectures; vocabulary tests to check lexical minimum mastery; practical tests to evaluate ability to perform written translation or interpreting).
Final assessment is by exam in written and oral form. The maximum number of exam points is 40.
The exam card consists of 3 tasks:
1. Perform an abstract translation of an excerpt of the text into Ukrainian (in writing, 15 points);
2. Perform consecutive interpretation of the proposed text. (orally, 15 points);
3. Checking the lexical minimum for the semester (orally, 10 points).
