Learning outcomes
Р05. Knowledge to understand the relationship between structure and properties of substances. Р06. Knowledge to understand the periodic law and the periodic table of elements, to describe, explain and predict properties of chemical elements and compounds based on them. Р07. Skill to apply basic principles of quantum mechanics to describe the structure of atoms, molecules, and chemical bonds. Р16. Skill to perform computer calculations related to chemical problems by using standard and special software, abilities to analyse and display results. Р17. Ability to work individually or in a group, to obtain results within a limited time with an emphasis on professional honesty and scientific integrity. Р18. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of main facts, concepts, principles, and theories in chemistry. Р19. Skill to use your knowledge, understanding, competencies, and basic engineering skills to solve practical tasks and problems of nature.

Possess basic knowledge of university BSc cources of math, physics and inorganic chemistry
Course content
Symmetry of finite (molecules and crystalline polyhedra) and infinite (crystal latices) size objects. Crystal structure. Application of the above concepts for substance properties description.

Assessment methods and criteria
The evaluation is based on a 100-point system. Semester control includes control works, home practical works and assessment of practical work defence. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student during the semester assessment is 60 points / 36 points. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student on the exam is 40 points / 24 points.
