Course content
The History of Science and Technology discipline introduces students to the general history of science, as well as the development of scientific knowledge in specific fields of natural, social, humanitarian, and technical sciences in accordance with specific historical stages. Since the history of science is a story about the past, the forms of this story are being clarified, which are diverse: the main ones are the chronological history of science and the history of ideas (this possibility is explored by the historiography of science). Each of them performs a specific function, meets a particular need of science and scientists. Therefore, the discipline simultaneously teaches the chronological history of specific branches of science and the general and social history of science, which include the study of the socio-cultural determination of historical periods of science development, the patterns of scientific knowledge growth at different historical stages. Particular attention is paid to the coverage and analysis of the problems of the relationship between science and culture, science and philosophy, the principles of critical reflection on the problems of science by philosophy, as well as the influence of the socio-cultural context on the development of science. Particular attention is paid to mastering the intellectual wealth of the world's scientific culture, which is preserved in the history of mankind and on which modern science is based, which is also necessary for studying the history of scientific thought in Ukraine, clarifying its place and role. Therefore, the course focuses on clarifying the emergence and development of Ukrainian science in the context of the world history of science and culture.
