Learning outcomes
- knowledge: about the differences between the physical and social spaces of society; basic theoretical concepts that explain the concept of space, social in particular; the role and significance of spatial metaphors in sociology; the essence of spatial images and ideas and their social significance; the concepts of body space, space of space, space of action, differences and dialectical connections between globalization, regionalization, localization; - skills: ability to work with modern scientific literature, critically study the original source, use methods of analysis, compare and evaluate the methodological ability of different concepts and methodologies of studying social space; - skills of organizing and presenting a research project; - analytical, research and exploration activities.

Course content
1. Space and theories of space. Theoretical diversity of meanings of the concept of "space" and basic spatial concepts. Physical, biological and social dimensions of space. Sociological and environmental theories of space. 2. Social space-time. Social chronotope. Social memory in space and time. 3. Sociological dimension of the subject's space. Personal space. Home space. Phenomena of topophilia and topophobia. 4. Reflection of social space in art and architecture. Linguistic space and space in literary works. Social aspects of space in painting, sculpture and dance. Social significance of architectural space.

Assessment methods and criteria
1. active work in practical classes; 2. tests; 3. research project. Final assessment is Pass-exam: the total result of the points accumulated during the semester.
