Course content
The discipline familiarises students with the Ukrainian language: the alphabet, the basic rules of reading, writing and grammar. Students will learn to write and read in Ukrainian, produce oral and written speech, engage in dialogue on everyday topics listed in the syllabus, realise a range of communicative intentions in Ukrainian: greetings, farewells, apologies, acquaintances, invitations, asking and giving information.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The modes of the course delivery encompass practical classes and self-study, incl. creative tasks and discussions. To engage students’ in the educational process and foster their interaction, active and interactive methods are used.
Assessment methods and criteria
The form of summative assessment is a pass/fail grade. The pass grade is given if students score 60–100 points for their work throughout the semester, which does not presuppose any additional assessment. The students who score less than 60 points are required to complete some additional tasks on lecture topics and write a test. Formative assessment takes place on a day-to-day basis and incorporates students’ results for all types of learning activities, incl. self-study.
