Prerequisites and co-requisites
To succeed, the course requires knowledge of English at the level not lower than B2 of CEFR. In addition, students are supposed: to know vocabulary and grammar required for understanding and producing texts of different genres at level of B2 on the CEFR scale; to be able to use appropriate lexical and grammatical structures to complete writing tasks; to follow spelling and punctuation rules; to possess the skills of analyzing grammatical structures, syntax and stylistic units.
Course content
The discipline is an essential component of the professional training of master students, which involves studying the structure of genres and registers in written English, developing analytical reading skills and mastering editing techniques by doing reproductive and productive exercises and interactive tasks.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The modes of the course delivery encompass practical classes and self-study, which presuppose such activities as oral answers to the questions/discussions and writing assignments (tests, essays, short stories, reviews, etc. Active and interactive teaching methods are used in order to engage students in the educational process and unlock their creative potential.
Assessment methods and criteria
The form of summative assessment is an exam. The number of points for the exam is 24–40 (pass), the minimum that is added to the points for summative assessment. Students are admitted to the exam if they earn 36–60 points during formative assessment throughout the entire semester. The exam is in the written form and includes a written test and a creative writing task (see § 7 of the Syllabus).
