Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To have deep knowledge of the official (Ukrainian) and foreign languages for the written and oral communication purposes, professional and scientific communication in particular; to present research results in the official (Ukrainian) and foreign languages. PLO 6. To apply knowledge of expressive, emotional and logical linguistic means, and speech techniques in order to achieve planned pragmatic results and establish successful communication. PLO 10. To collect and pecializat linguistic, literary and folklore facts, to interpret and translate texts of different styles and genres. PLO 11. To carry out the scientific analysis of linguistic, speech and literary material, to interpret and structure it according to the relevant methodological principles, to generalise information on the basis of independently processed data. PLO 14. To create, analyse and edit texts of different styles and genres.
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. To know: functional styles and genres of English speech; basics of speech genres of business discourse; features of the use of linguistic means in English business speech; basic theories of translation and their criticism: basic strategies and techniques of translation. 2. To be able to: perceive, select, critically comprehend and interpret information from English-language sources to solve educational and professional problems; correctly use language tools/terminology in English oral and written speech; decode speaker's intentions by analyzing communicative strategies in oral and written speech; operate professionally with linguistic terms to explain the analyzed phenomena; analyze, create and edit English texts of different genres; translate texts of business discourse into Ukrainian. 3. To possess elementary skills: to recognize rhetorical strategies and correlate them with the communicative purpose of the text.
Course content
The course "Business Speech and Translation" is designed to improve students' socio-cultural, linguistic and translation competencies and to increase the effectiveness of business communication in English by: familiarizing students with the peculiarities of academic and business discourses, systematizing knowledge about the linguistic means and rhetorical strategies of the English language in this discourse, developing students' skills in using linguistic means in various situations of business communication and in translation.

Assessment methods and criteria
The student is admitted to the final assessment, provided that he completes all practical work, module control work, in general, receiving at least 36 points. The maximum number of points in the exam is 40 points, the minimum number of points – 24 points (60% of the maximum number of points allocated for the exam). The form of the exam is written and oral; written work consists of 3 tasks, each of which is evaluated with a maximum of 10 points; oral answer to the discussion of the theoretical question (maximum 10 points).
