            PLO 2. To have deep knowledge of the official (Ukrainian) and foreign languages for the written and oral communication purposes, professional and scientific communication in particular; to present research results in the official (Ukrainian) and foreign languages.
PLO 6. To apply knowledge of expressive, emotional and logical linguistic means, and speech techniques in order to achieve planned pragmatic results and establish successful communication.
PLO 10. To collect and  pecializat linguistic, literary and folklore facts, to interpret and translate texts of different styles and genres.
PLO 11. To carry out the scientific analysis of linguistic, speech and literary material, to interpret and structure it according to the relevant methodological principles, to generalise information on the basis of independently processed data.
PLO 14. To create, analyse and edit texts of different styles and genres.

            Prerequisites and co-requisites
        
        
            To speak English at the B2 level, to have developed communicative competence as part of linguistic, sociocultural and pragmatic competences, to know the technology of translation from English into Ukrainian. Know the main functions, types, structure and participants of the communication process; functional styles and genres of English speech. To be able to perceive, select and critically interpret information from English-language sources; decode the speaker's intentions by analyzing communicative strategies in oral and written speech; to create oral and written texts in compliance with the norms of the speech genre; to perform and present educational projects and work in a project group.
        
    
            Course content
        
        
            The goal of the discipline is to improve students’ English communicative competence in the process of achieving C1 level according to the All-European Recommendations on Language Education (2020) and to increase the effectiveness of communication in the field of academic speech by: acquainting students with the features of academic discourse and systematizing knowledge about communicative (rhetorical) strategies for its implementation , formation of students' skills in oral and written production of academic discourse texts in English, translation of academic texts from English to Ukrainian and from Ukrainian to English; improving the ability to analyze the use of speech means and rhetorical strategies in the genres of academic discourse.

            Planned learning activities and teaching methods
        
        
            The course provides for the following forms of training organization: practical classes and unsupervised work. The main types of work and, accordingly, the objects of semester control are: classwork, test, scientific report, group/individual project, modular control work. A student can score a maximum of 60 points for performing the prescribed types of work, minimum - 48 points. The discipline ends with an exam (max. 40 points, min. 24 points).
        
    
            Assessment methods and criteria
        
        
            The student is admitted to the final assessment, provided that he completes all practical work, module control work, in general, receiving at least 36 points. The maximum number of points in the exam is 40 points, the minimum number of points – 24 points (60% of the maximum number of points allocated for the exam). The form of the exam is written and oral; written work consists of 3 tasks, each of which is evaluated with a maximum of 10 points; oral answer to the discussion of the theoretical question (maximum 10 points).
